Happy Halloween! I've spent a lot of time in the woods this summer and have been learning more about spiders. Our eight-legged friends are so misunderstood, and I'm finding the more I learn about them, the more my own apprehension toward them seems to melt away. This piece includes pholcidae (true daddy long legs, which are born indoors and are often confused with harvestmen), the black widow, and Pholcus phalangioides, commonly known as the cellar spider (and also confused with pholcidae!). And, it would be rude not to mention my little fungi friends, the conifer psilocybes.

In honor of the new year, I decided to pay tribute by doing this sketch only on the Eve of the New Year, and of course today. I also read that the cactus is considered to be lucky (at least for snakes in chinese folklore) and so I threw a few of those in for good measure. Happy hissing.
